Skate WA

Skate WA is the State Sporting Organisation (SSO) for roller sports, recognised by Skate Australia as its WA state branch.

We operate as a volunteer run organisation, with an aim to promote, develop and grow artistic skating, inline hockey, rink hockey, roller derby and speed skating in Western Australia.

Skate Australia is the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for Skate Sports, recognised by Sport Australia, the Australian Olympic Committee and the international federation, World Skate.

Benefits to joining as an individual

PEAK BODY AFFILIATION Skate Australia promotes, develops and grows skate sports throughout Australia. We are the national sports organisation charged with making sure our skate sports have the necessary credentials to be eligible for present and future government funding.
INSURANCE If you are injured our insurance will cover you for up to $3000 of non-Medicare expenses. And if you are a competitive member our insurer will help you with some money while you are off work with loss of income protection.
ACCREDITATION You can become a nationally qualified coach and/or official in your sport. This also means as an athlete you will experience a higher standard of competition due to a consistent and quality national standard that this coach and official education brings.
STATE & NATIONAL REPRESENTATION You can represent your club, state and even Australia at official events including national and international world championships.
GRANTS & FUNDING Being a member gives you access to various grants and individual scholarships; through outside agencies. We can also provide you with assistance and support in obtaining these grants.
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS You have access to all Skate Australia Programs & Resources.

 

Skate WA membership types

ASSOCIATE A member who assists and supports the sport off skates. Can hold positions on club committees but does not skate.  All club committee members must have a minimum of Associate membership.
NON-SKATING OFFICIAL A member who participates in their sport a non-skating official in their sport only.  Can hold positions on club committees but does not skate.  All club committee members must have a minimum of Associate or NSO membership.
COACH A skater who coaches on skates but does not formally participate in games/events as a player.
REFEREE A skater who officiates the their sports on skates but does not participate in games.
RECREATIONAL SKATER

Traditional: A skater who participates in lessons, classes, and training sessions for artistic skating, inline hockey, rink hockey, roller tag, or speed skating.  Can only participate in Traditional discipline competitions designated for recreation only. 

Roller derby: A skater who is learning the fundamentals of skating, but not yet participating in contact roller derby drills.

DEVELOPMENT SKATER

Traditional: A skater who can participate in local leagues designated as development leagues.

Roller derby: A skater who is learning to play roller derby, or who has been cleared to play in scrimmages or home games, but not yet playing competitively against other clubs in travel team games.

COMPETITIVE SKATER

Traditional: A skater who can participate in all competitions including state, national and international championships.

Roller derby: A skater who is at the level of playing competitively against other clubs in travel team games.
